or maybe not.
I take forever to write another post.
but:
I have something new for u guys today:)
Its a summary of a Media Literacy workshop that I attended:)

Media Literacy Workshop:

During the recent March holidays, a selected group of sec 2 and Sec 3 librarians, including myself, attended a Media Literacy workshop. We were there to learn about the techniques commonly used in different types of media. Due to the limit of time available, our friendly trainer, Mrs Shirley Khew, could only focus on 2 main topics, namely print advertisements and television commercials. We learnt about the following techniques used to advertise a product/place:

1. Association- linking it to adventure, beauty, and quality.

2. Bandwagon- idea that everyone is buying it, or to be with the ‘in crowd’.

3. Image advertising -associating it with certain styles, people, or places.

4. Name calling- using unsavory terms to describe the competition to make the advertiser’s product look better.

5. Omission-missing details about the product (to create curiosity about it).

6. Repetition- endorsing it over and over again.

7. Scale- advertising it as bigger or smaller.

8. Testimonial- a claim by a celebrity or someone of authority that it is good or good for you.

9. Weasel- implying a promise by using words like ‘usually’ or ‘chances are’.

For our first activity, we looked for interesting advertisements in popular magazines to identify the techniques used in the advertisement. We discovered that generally many advertisements use at least 2 techniques or more to catch the readers’ eye. I made an interesting discovery: that advertisements which used pictures caught my eye more readily. Therefore, I also learnt that pictures would help to capture the readers’ attention.

Our second activity required us to view the nominated 2008 television advertisements. My group chose a clip created by M1 to attract the customers to their DIY plan. We identified that it used 4 of the above techniques, namely, name calling, image advertising, association and bandwagon.

The third activity was very enjoyable. It involved us coming up with a suitable caption for a picture. My picture was of a crying boy, and I gave it the caption: ‘Young boy traumatized after witnessing the gruesome murder of father by a still mysterious figure’, which was a bit off the mark, but I was well satisfied with it. Mrs Khew explained to us that if we viewed the pictures separately, we would begin to have totally different captions in our minds for the pictures, than if we saw the pictures together in a row.

The last activity required us to locate photographs of different events from a website, and selecting 4 to 5 of them. We then had to create possible stories for the pictures: either weaving them into a story or giving a separate story for each picture. As for me, I chose to weave my two pictures into a story along these lines: A group of archaeologists made a discovery at an excavation site but the very moment they stumbled upon their find, the sky turned black, and two lightning bolts struck each other, causing a huge explosion of light. This caused the archaeologists to decide to cover up the discovery again, and immediately, the sky brightened and a rainbow appeared in the very spot where 2 lightning bolts had occurred...

These activities have greatly boosted my and my fellow club members’ knowledge of media literacy!

Today there was teenz retreat and it was fun and the message was good.
The topic was: "What should I do about what I wear?"
Or something that goes along those lines...
It was really edifying.
I learnt that we should not wear those type of revealing clothes.
And also we discussed whether we looked like a child of God.
I think that I am half half cos I can be very naughty sometimes...
But I am also guai guai sometimes.
At home, I can be naughty, but in school I can be very good:)
So pls reflect as well, all of you guys:)
I think that going for retreat is good cos it helps us reflect on what we hv been doing.
And we can also try to change our way of speaking,
acting, behaviour, so that we a re a good testimony for Christ.
I hope that everyone will be able to come for retreat one day.
Today only a small handful of guys and roughly 17ish gurls came.
So you cam imagine how empty it was lah huh.
Therefore I hope that everyone can come for retreat.

THE LAST DAY OF THE EXAMS:)

Today is the last day of the exams:)
yay~
There was only E Math which was quite okay.
Although I say that, I might get horrible results.
I hope I pass at least my English, Chinese, Geography, and Biology.
And pass them well.
Then I'll be contented.
I definitely do not want to flunk all my subjects...

on saturday gonna wake up at 6.30am to go play tennis.

YESTERDAY: MY DAY AT SCHOOL:)

Today was pretty good. I got to leave school early.

hah. yay!

oh yes. about my day. here it is!

First period was CHEMISTRY.

Ms Azilah was pretty mad about us not downloading her notes.

And she scolded us for, like, TEN MINUTES.

no lah. exxageration.

And then, we hurriedly described our day, and then agreed on the extra chem lesson.

Which was at 1pm today.

urgh.

Second period was PE.

Because I fell and twisted my ankle, I was not able to do my PE.

So sad.
And Christina Low, was, like, glaring at me for the entire lesson.

yuck. bleargh.

although, yeah, it was my own fault in the first place.

Third period was RECESS!!!

I sat at the stone table and was studying with my chinese class mates and we were so mugging for the class test. NOT.

DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND. WE STUDIED.

We all studied already. :)

YAY!

Then we went to the class at 10.30am for our GEOG LESSON.

Fourth period, as I already mentioned, was GEOGRAPHY.

YES! Miss Sharyl is like, the cutest teacher lor.

So small, petite, and just like Geraldine dearie in our class:)

She's fun, too!

She's probably the only teacher I don't get bored listening to.

Except for Mr M. :)

Fifth period was the DREADED CHINESE.

We had a class test, so it's out of the question to actually say something about it.

ah.

It was one hour long.

And the paper was all messed up.

My pages' order became 1,3,5,2,4.

Seriously, what is with the printers!

GAH.

THE SIXTH AND LAST PERIOD-E MATH.

Well, not really.

Just half an hour of it.

We went through 2B and 2C.

I got almost everything correct!

YAY.

HURRAY TO ME!

THEN.

We had to go back to class for the chem extra lesson.

So sad.

Urgh.

We had roughly another 45 mins of chem with Ms Azilah.

Quite fruitful, we went through lots of stuff, eg cations, anions, etc:)

MUMMY HAD TO SMS ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LESSON.

So I had to secretly send her an sms to tell her not to call.

So I called mummy at the end of the lesson.

and I told her I haven't eaten lunch.

so she fetched me first and then we went to Margaret Drive to take-away hor fun.

It was good.

Delicious!

Today was a good day. But also a bad one. I lost two of my fav teachers. Miss Lim and Ms Shervon... so sad... recently I've been emo, so yeah...

ended up, my group, of which Josephine was captain, we lost. geh.

I drank a vanilla milkshake, and went to the library.

Recently I've been addicted to barley and vanilla milkshake.

It's hard to decide what to drink. tsk.

Literature:

We did this weird unseen poem called Dulce et Decorum Est,

which is actually Latin.

Basically Dulce Et Decorum Est,Pro Patria Mori means that it is

sweet and fitting to die for one's country.

i wonder about that.

It seemed pretty gory to me.

E math:

Basically we just learned 2.3, pretty easy, and I figured out everything:) YAhoo!
nothing much to say actually for this one.
Except that we were kicked out of our official venue for Emath and had to go to the ensemble room, and I could hardly write.

grr.Mother Tongue:

We just did compo. urgh.

WHY DO THERE HAVE TO BE SUCH THINGS AS COMPOSITIONS?!

SPA Bio!!! yaay!

We did the testing of Biuret's solution, Benedict's solution, Alcohol Emulsion test, and the peanut test:) It was fun! I like Spa anythings!

And that was the end of my day? Nope.Not quite.

I had a 3.30pm orthodontist appointment. cheh. geh.

and i had to spend my time writing finish the chinese compo. not particularly... interesting. and thats all i'm gonna say.

hwehhh... Sec 3 life is horrible... :( sobs. notime for my beloved manga or anime at all... waah:( oh yeah, i really like playing tennis now, inspired by the anime Prince of Tennis. Thanks to Hilary who recommended it to me. Ryoma is cool. But he's voiced by a female voice artist. so sad. today i had both SPA chem and bio. turns out i got the old version of the practical book for chem. but got extra stuff for my book:) that's the bright side of it. and i don't need to change the book. today we did a summary that was seriously hard. i think i'm gonna get horrible marks for it. the first e'math test i got 13 out of 20. bad. seriously. ineedtoimprove!!! geh. bye.

Hello! I'm so sorry I haven't blogged for such a long time! It's now 2009 and I'm now SEC 3!!! I can't believe it! So happy:) Anyways, my form teacher is like, Mr Miranda, and he was around during the library tour that I gave, can't believe that he is the EL teacher of 1C1. What a coincidence! And anyways, I just became a fan of Prince Of Tennis! Hilary introduced me to it:) Mada Mada Dane:) HIS favourite phrase... I LOVE YOU GUYS! Made so many friends lately, e.g. Eindra, Irfanah, Skina, Rukshana, Kar Yee:), Nicole, Si Jia, Rachel, etc.:) So happy. I'm able to fit in with my class, and my chinese teacher is Zhao Fang, and she is so scary lor. I had her for chinese oral once, and she started scolding us once she came in to the class. BUT. I think that she is a very nice person also... :) ja, mata ne!

Ah... the final year exams are already here... and the Literature paper, English paper, and Mother Tongue Paper 1 is OVER!!! And remaining is the: Math paper. Science paper. Geography paper. Man... this sure was a bad day indeed... I guess? cos' yeah, today's the english FYE exam:) It was quit okay though as the questions I did were what I've done before. I seriously hit the JACKPOT:) muhahaha... *evil laughs* my life has been pretty uneventful lately, so... it was really boring. recently I went to sentosa in about, oh, i don't know, 10 years? Seriously. Also, I once drowned at a swimming pool, or rather the intgrated resort kinda pool, something like Wild Wild Wet that sorta thing. yeah. It was the fright of my life. I suffocated and was kicking at someone, trying to get him to save me. It happened another time as well when we were somewhere else, I was really small at that time, but I can still remember the feeling of running out of air, trying to get it but not being successful. Another time was recently, when I almost died cos my irritating sister was strangling me and I was trying to get her off me. Thankfully my brother noticed in time and pulled her off me. THAT was seriously a close call. WHEW. Anyways, I can't say anymore:) byebye!!!

hi minna, sorry i haven't blogged for so long... anyways, all my results are out... my total percentage is 63+%, so lousy... must work harder, but this time also managed to improve:) hahas. I officially moved into 95 Clover Ave on Saturday, 23rd of August. I'm getting used to the life at my new home, but am so totally confused about how to get home... ahahaha, so embarrasing. It's geog now but so boring... i wanna die from the boredness... Oh... EXAM RESULTS!!!

hi, everyone! I'm SO happy about my exam results... I managed to get A2 for my D&T, B3 for my Maths, but i barely passed my chinese with a C6, and I don't know about the rest yet... but I'm so happy! I improved by so much, I can barely believe it myself~~~ wahahaha. Oh. Please, visit my PBL Group's blog, and help us to raise awareness for our activity. Thanks!

LAST SATURDAY...

Hi everyone, I want to tell you about what happened last Saturday... It was a really long day, and do you know why??? We are moving house soon. (A revalation!) And as everyone knows, we all have to clean up the new house rite? Rite. And... I had to wipe cabinets, do the mopping, vacuuming, skirting, sweeping, and the washing of windows. But I was lucky. In, or rather, on the TOP of the kitchen cabinets, was a LARGE AND THICK LAYER OF DUST, that my mother said, 'looks and feels like black PLAYDOUGH' . I'm NEVER ever gonna touch playdough ever again. So disgusting. YUCK! But, I liked the fun of mopping the floor, it was so fun to play with 'mop-head' :)

BUT! After the most of the cleaning, at about 12.30pm, I went to eat lunch with my brother and my father and my sister. OF COURSE, it was for a reason. I needed to get to my golf lesson after that. From 1.30pm tp 2.30pm, I was away from the house... and after that, I went back. It was more cleaning and mopping for me after that. At about 3.30pm, my father brought my sister to her swimming class. you see, she is only 5 years old this year. My brother went with him, and therefore there was only my mom, me and the two maids. We worked and worked and worked, and I was sweating real hard.

However, my mom was real nice and we walked out to the nearby coffee shop for a drink. I drank ICE LEMON TEA-yum! and my mom drank KICKAPOO (her favorite)!!! Then, we walked back and talked about our plans for moving house and etc.

When we finished most of the stuff left, we went home, and that was the end of THE CLEANING DAY.

After that, for our dinner, we went to Thompson Plaza's Sakae Sushi to have our dinner. We also ate some dessert from zhen jie... YUM! And then after that...

Our Aunt Jane called to ask us to show our paternal side of the family the new house and give them a tour around the neighbourhood. And of course, since we can't turn down their request, we gave them a late night tour. We also showed them the way to Juntion 8 and the Bishan Library. It was truly GINORMOUS! We soon went back to our new house after that. Btw, the first day of moving is... TODAY! We're moving from 60 Oriole Crescent to 95 Clover Avenue... and we're downgrading from a bungalow to a semi-detached... But I gotta go now, so BYE~~

I am sooooo hyper today cos i got 17 out 20 marks for my maths test! It is such a great change from getting lousy marks... my mom was so happy that she was smiling the whole time. she usually doesn't smile that much... :) but i failed my chinese... so sad. waah!!!! T.T... oh well, >.< anyways, I like manga!!! anime's good too, but depends on the circumstances... who wants to eat kueh lapis?! ( my mom said that ) me! me! Hello!
I found one more new manga that should be interesting for you guys to read:)
It's called Akuma Jiten. It's pretty good...
Here's a short summary of it:
It is basically about a boy renting a big but haunted house but ends up finding a demon which tries to make him its servant and succeeds but lots of things happen afterwards which I won't say cos I want you to have the suspense of reading it...
Anyways, I LOVE eating!!!

I just viewed another new manga... It's title is Lucky Star and Lucky Star Pocket Travelers... They're really cute( the characters) but is not like a manga at all...
Haha... I just had my oral yesterday... It was quite okay:) I think I did well in THAT one~~~ so happy! Alright, I gtg, I can't talk much, so...BYE!
